In a crisis situation, particularly when it is a major crisis of national interest, the organization may be approached by many reporters who are new to covering the organization.You would not have had an opportunity to develop good relationships with these reporters, and you may know very little about their interests or preferences. Nevertheless, they will be writing stories that will shape the way the public perceives your organization.

What can the public relations practitioner do to make the best of this situation and ensure the most fair news coverage possible? Why can’t these reporters who are new to covering our organization be treated like the reporters we work with every day, week in and week out?
