Uncertainty-Reduction-Theory | savvyessaywriters.org

Write about personal experiences and apply an interpersonal theory to everyday happenings.

1- Write a story with 2-3 character in this theory include all 3 components (it’s okay more than once) :-

    • Uncertainty Reduction Theory.

“in initial interactions we want to reduce uncertainties about partner by gathering info.” –Three Strategies:

    • 1-Passive – “Unnoticeably observing to gain info about a person.”
    • 2-Active – “Asking others to gain info about a person.”
    • 3-Interactive – “Communicate directly to the person to gain info.”

Ex. Watching someone, Facebook creeping. Ex. Hey, do you know anything about that girl over there? Ex. How are you? What’s your name?

  • 2- The structure of writing the paper:
  • In the beginning of story (1 paragraph), make sure to clearly identify the main character(s). You can tell this story from a “first-person” perspective (“I/We”) or from a “third-person” (“He/She/They”) perspective. Please provide the following (in any order):
    • Give the main character(s) a name (Who is this?).
    • State at least three characteristics or qualities of the main character(s) in the story (what about them?).
    • Identify the setting (where AND when is the story taking place?).
  • In the middle of the story (3-4 paragraphs), please provide the following:
    • Initiating Event(s) in the story. (What happened to the main character(s)?)
    • Internal Response(s) to the event in the story. This may be a goal, plan, thought, and/or feeling (What did the main character(s) think about the event?)
    • External Response(s) to the event in the story. This may be an action to reach a goal, carry out a plan, remedy a crisis, or resolve a state of emotional uncertainty. (What did the main character(s) do in response to the event?)
    • Consequence(s) in the story. A happening caused by the main character(s) External Response in the story. (After the main character(s) acted, what happened?)
  • In the ending of the story (1 paragraph), please provide the following:
    • Resolution in the story. The event is somehow resolved and there is closure, whether it ends positively or negatively. (How did it all end?)
    • Moral of the story. The overall message or lesson learned from the story. (What is the main take-away?)
